Tuttosport 02/07/99

Juventus started its training camp yesterday with 14 players and 5 from the Primavera team (Lavecchia, Scardina, Redavid, Sculli, Gasbarroni).

Antonio Giraudo denied rumors that he was going to head the Torino 2006 Olympic Committee or become Ferrari's managing director, stating that he still has 3 years in his contract with Juventus. Giraudo added that, even though there have been few season-ticket renewals and that Juve is in the red for Lit 70 billion [36 million; $37 million] in the transfer market, it will still make it up.

Roberto Bettega said that Juve is a great team, while Luciano Moggi told doubters to wait the results on the field before criticizing.

Carlo Ancelotti is satisfied with this team, saying that it really is his. He was extremely pleased that Juve kept its more important players. Ancelotti said it was a difficult market and that Juve's should be considered closed, even though he admitted that something might change in the future. One of his victories is that Ciro Ferrara remained after speaking with him.

The spotlight was on Ronnie O'Brien and Juan Eduardo Esnaider. O'Brien said that he understands that Juve will only use him in the Intertoto and that it will loan him to a foreign team (probably a Swiss one) to get more experience. Esnaider, OTOH, will remain: he wants to prove to Ancelotti that Juve didn't make a mistake in buying him last January and that, as soon as he's 100% healthy, he will show who the real Esnaider is.

There are also some sad faces: Ferrara, Alessio Tacchinardi, Nicola Amoruso, and Mark Iuliano. Ferrara isn't too thrilled at the idea of starting from the bench and had expressed the desire to follow Marcello Lippi at Inter. Amoruso will try to convince Juve through the Intertoto to keep him, since his trading value will only diminish with the summer progressing. Iuliano isn't too happy about the idea that he was transfer listed and that Juve sought Martin Djetou to replace him. Djetou, meanwhile, stated that he will only play for Juventus next season. Finally, Tacchinardi opted to not speak with the press, but told journalists that he will let everyone know his intentions in a few days. Tacchinardi is upset since Juve will replace Didier Deschamps with Sunday Oliseh and not give him the starting role.

Meanwhile, Deschamps is in London, where he said that Gianluca Vialli will lead someday Juventus and that Alessandro Del Piero deserves all the money that his new contract will give him.
