La Stampa 14/06/99
Luciano Moggi said that Juve and Alessandro Del Piero have made huge
improvements in the player's contract discussion. Del Piero will earn
around Lit 8-9 billion [4.1-4.6 million; $4.8-5.4 million] not considering
the image rights, which the player wants to control, while Juve wants to do
it.
This week, Juve will have to make Darko Kovacevic's acquisition official,
smooth the final details of Martin Djetou's transfer, and clear up the
situation around Didier Deschamps. Monaco says that Deschamps is its, while
the player's agent says that nothing has been decided. Moggi, instead, says
that Deschamps has to respect his contract with Juventus, unless he finds a
team that is able to give good money for his transfer. Deschamps says that
his experience with Juve is over and that he will move to another team.
Deschampas is said to go to Chelsea, but Juve doesn't want to undersell
him, considering that he's France's skipper. Carlo Ancelotti, who left
yesterday for a vacation in Egypt, said that they have done everything they
could to keep Deschamps in Turin. If Deschamps indeed leaves, Giuliano
Giannichedda is expected to replace him. Juve is also interested in Michel
Angel Salgado.
Ancelotti said that he is happy that Filippo Inzaghi has extended his
contract, meaning that he will be worry-free next season. He also said that
Kovacevic is a good buy, since he could play with either Del Piero or
Inzaghi. He's also happy about Edwin Van der Sar, "one of the top 5
goalkeepers in the world".
