Edgar Davids and Filippo Inzaghi will soon sign contract extensions with
Juve until 2004. Davids' announcement was made a week ago, but the player
hasn't had a chance yet to sign. Inzaghi is said to earn Lit 5 billion
[2.6 million; $3 million] per season.
Discussions for Alessandro Del Piero's contract renewal will resume only
when the player returns from a vacation in the Caribbean in 10 days.
Even though he was asked to stay one more season, Didier Deschamps will
leave this summer.
Nicola Amoruso seems headed to Bologna, while Mark Iuliano should leave for
Liverpool. Fiorentina has asked for Angelo Di Livio, but Juve refused any
offer, since it doesn't want to let the winger go and the money offered by
Fiorentina is very low. Arsenal wants Gianluca Pessotto, but Juve isn't so
sure of selling the fullback.
Zinedine Zidane is fully recovered from his injury and is currently
spending his vacations in Cte d'Azur.
Yesterday, Angelo Peruzzi visited Stadio Comunale for the last time to pack
his things and say goodbye to the storemen.
According to Tuttosport, Juve will play with a 3-4-1-2, in order to use
Zidane.
Juventus will play its first Intertoto home game in Cesena, with the second
possibly in San Benedetto del Tronto [Ascoli Piceno].
Juve has asked Real Sociedad for a discount on Darko Kovacevic's price tag,
which is currently Lit 40 billion [20 million; $24 million]. Barcelona has
offered Sonny Andersson for the same price, but Carlo Ancelotti prefers
Kovacevic. Atletico Madrid is also interested in the Real Sociedad striker.
Arsenal has told FIFA about Real Madrid's illegal approach of Nicolas
Anelka. Juve might have a chance at the Frenchman, considering also that it
helped Arsene Wenger's team approach Roberto Muzzi and might be willing to
include Pessotto in order to get Anelka.
Anelka seems a more likely choice, since, to obtain Christian Vieri, Juve
would have to sacrifice Davids. The other possibility is Marcio Amoroso,
but he's way too expensive.
Juve is trying to keep Deschamps, since it doesn't have many alternatives
and because Did has refused all the teams proposed by Juve (Monaco, Real
Sociedad, Deportivo La Corua). Roma, as a matter of fact, has approached
Flavio Conceiao, not considering that the player is very expensive. Luigi
Di Biagio, who is set to leave Roma, looks headed to Inter. Another option
would be Giuliano Giannichedda, but Udinese is asking for Lit 30 billion
[15 million; $18 million]. Moreover, Milan is said to be interested in the
midfielder.
Newspapers in Spain say that Juve is after left winger Pedro Munitis
[Racing Santander], whose price is $9 million [7.7 million; Lit 15
billion]. Munitis' contract ends in the year 2000. This deal is unlikely,
since Juve is already covered in that position and this is why Jonathan
Bachini won't probably be bought. Moreover, if Di Livio were to leave, Juve
would go after a fullback, like Paolo Vanoli [Parma].
Martin Djetou's arrival was delayed because of Deschamps' refusal of
transferring to Monaco. Monaco and Juve now have to update Djetou's price,
which should be around Lit 27 billion [14 million; $16 million]. Djetou
should arrive next week.
Paolo Negro might be targeted by Juve, since the player doesn't fit into
Sven Goran Eriksson's plans.
Next week, Luciano Moggi will meet with Oscar Damiani, Fabrizio Ferron's
agent.
Two Juve youngsters, defender Piccolo and forward Famiano, will participate
at the Under-16 Salerno Tournament final which pits the Under-16 Italian
team and Brazil.
