La Stampa 26/05/99
According to La Stampa, Angelo Peruzzi will leave Juventus and probably go
to Lazio, close to his hometown of Blera (Viterbo). Peruzzi had already
received an offer from Lazio last summer, but he refused, saying that Luca
Marchegiani deserved to be the starter. Peruzzi's other choice is Roma,
where he grew up as a player, before being suspended.
Another team is interested: it is Inter, who will go after Peruzzi if
Gianluca Pagliuca goes to Manchester United.
Peruzzi, who has a contract until 2003, has always said that he didn't plan
to fulfill his contract, saying that he might even retire in 2001. Peruzzi,
who was criticized by Juve management the few times he gave interviews, has
also said in the past that there are no more franchise players and that he
would stay to Juve until a received a much more generous deal.
Juventus plans to receive at least Lit 20 billion [10 million; $12
million] for the goalkeeper. Juve is said to be after a goalkeeper, but
that the best Italy has to offer is Alessio Scarpi [Cagliari]. Considering
that Michelangelo Rampulla isn't getting any younger, it's probable that
Juve's next goalkeeper will be a foreigner: either Fabien Barther [Monaco]
or 28-year old Edwin Van der Sar [Ajax].
Lazio is in hot pursuit for Filippo Inzaghi, but Parma is also interested
in erasing its mistake [i.e. selling Inzaghi to Juve in 1996]: if the
latter happens, than Hernan Crespo could leave and join his mentor, Carlo
Ancelotti.
Roberto Muzzi, who will leave Cagliari, has Juve and Fiorentina courting him.
Due to his high release clause, it is likely that Juventus will forget
Flavio Conceiao [Deportivo La Corua].
Starting from today, Juventus will not work with the Centro Coordinamento
Juventus Club (CCJC). The reason is said to be the ticket-issue for the
match against Manchester United, where season-ticket holders and Juve Club
members didn't receive their tickets (myself included). Juventus will deal
directly with the Juventus Clubs from now on. CCJC was founded in April
1994 and headed a group of more than 800 Juventus Clubs.
