La Stampa 11/05/99

Zinedine Zidane will be today in Strasbourg to be visited by Dr. Jaeger. Zizou will be operated tomorrow on his meniscus.

Ciro Ferrara had an ecography yesterday that indicated that the defender has a contracture on his left thigh. It's very difficult that he will be match-ready for either of Juve's remaining games. His 180 seconds against Milan will probably be his last appearance in a Juve shirt.

Both Luciano Moggi and Carlo Ancelotti said that Juve's strategy is not to revolutionize the current team, but only to make slight adjustments. Moggi said that Juve is only looking for a flank defender, but only if he's better than Gianluca Pessotto, who is an Italy international. Moggi said that everybody will remain next season, including Didier Deschamps, Zidane, and Alessandro Del Piero.

Regarding Del Piero's contract: both Moggi and Alex said that there is no real disagreeement and that the two sides are close to a deal.

[NOTE: La Stampa's Fabio Vergnano says that it's very hard to believe that Juve will remain with the current team and that Del Piero's contract isn't near to a conclusion and it's difficult to even think that Moggi will agree to Del Piero's requests]

Meanwhile, Real Madrid has offered Lit 50 billion [26 million; $30 million] for Zizou and it's willing to include Clarence Seedorf in the deal. Juve is very interested in the Liga players, since Darko Kovacevic [Real Sociedad], Gomez [Real Sociedad], and Flavio Conceicao [Deportivo La Coruna] are all linked to Juve. Gomez is a Deschamps kind of player.

It's also expected that Juve buys a central defender: Martin Djetou [Monaco] is the most rumored name. Dino Baggio [Parma] is still in Juve's plans and he might be considered for a defensive role instead of his current one as a midfielder.
