Juventus is interested in Paraguayan defender Carlos Alberto Gamarra, currently playing with Corinthians. Gamarra, born February 17, 1971 in Yparaca, debuted wit Cerro Porteno where he won 3 Paraguayan league titles. He moved to Independiente [Argentina], then to Internacional Prto Alegre [Brazil], before finally moving to Benfica. He recently returned to Brazil, where he was voted best defender in the history of Corinthians, 1998 Brazil's Best Player, and he came in right after Martin Palermo [Boca Juniors] for South America's Golden Ball Award. Juventus contacted Gamarra's agent, Settimio Aloisio, and it is believed that the player's price will be around $8 million (Lit 13.2 billion; 6.8 million), considering that he was bought for only $3 million (Lit 5 billion; 2.6 million). Gamarra is owned by a Spanish bank, Bilbao Biscaya, who acquired him when it bought Brazilian bank Excel. Gamarra would replace Ciro Ferrara.

Juventus might finally get 28-year old forward Roberto Muzzi [Cagliari] after two years of courtship.

Considering that Morgan De Sanctis will be 99.9% loaned to another team next season and that both Angelo Peruzzi and Michelangelo Rampulla, who recently signed a contract extension to the year 2000, are injury-prone, Juve is looking to sign a third goalkeeper, 30-year old Pino Taglialatela [Napoli].

Thirty-three year old forward George Weah admitted that, if he were to leave Milan, he would play only for Juventus, although he said that Juve might not want him due to his age.

Yesterday, Filippo Inzaghi didn't train due to gastroenteritis and is probable for Sunday's match.
