Yesterday, Roberto Bettega and Antonio Giraudo met Real Madrid president
Carlos Sanz in Barcelona, in occasion of Barcelona's 100th anniversary
match against Brazil. A swap between Edgar Davids and 23-year old
midfielder Clarence Seedorf was discussed. Alessandro Del Piero was
probably a topic of discussion too, considering that Real Madrid is
interested in him and Juve is after Roberto Carlos.
If Barcelona's interest in Zinedine Zidane is confirmed, Juve might ask for
Brazilian forward Rivaldo. Meanwhile, Bettega and Giraudo seemed interested
in Brazilian midfielder Flavio Conceiao [Deportivo La Corua] too.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid coach Toshak confirmed that defender Christian
Panucci will play for Inter next season. This complicates Juve's plans,
since Real Madrid will now go after defender Michel Salgado [Celta Vigo]
and, since the player has always said that he would rather remain in Spain,
it looks like a done deal, unless Real Madrid gets 27-year old defender
Giuseppe Pancaro [Lazio].
In any case, Juve needs other defenders, such as defender Lilian Thuram
[Parma]. As is well known, two more Parma players are in Juve's thoughts:
midfielder Dino Baggio and forward Hernan Crespo, with the latter
partnering Filippo Inzaghi next season if Del Piero leaves. Recent rumors,
though, have Juve being unhappy about Inzaghi's salary raise demand (he had
a raise last summer, right after the World Cup) and might think of selling
SuperPippo and get 24-year old forward Vincenzo Montella [Sampdoria].
Juventus will be without Igor Tudor against Salernitana, since last
Sunday's booking triggered a 1-match suspension.
Yesterday, Juan Eduardo Esnaider had surgery on both Achilles' tendons in
Finland. He will be out for three months.
