La Stampa 24/04/99
After his wife Vronique was interviewed by La Stampa where she explained
that she doesn't hate Turin nor is she forcing her husband to leave (sorry,
I probably trashed that issue), Zinedine Zidane was interviewed by France
Football and this is what he said:
"Morally, you can't leave after a season in which I performed way below my
first two seasons, only because physically I couldn't keep up."
"In my home, we [my wife and I] both have our say in equal parts, it has
always been this way. It's true that my wife doesn't love Turin, but I was
wrong in telling this, even though it is true that I won't stay until the
end of my contract [2004]. I wasn't trying to be polemic, but this, as with
the rest of the little things that involve me, has become a Nationa's
affair. It is probably also my fault, since I don't have the same qualities
in public relations as Didier Deschamps."
"Agnelli says whatever he wants to whoever he wants. I don't like this."
"Recently, I was attacked through my wife. I don't watch TV, I don't read
newspapers, but there is always somebody that tells me everything. This is
only gossip. My wife has never decided on her own, because I'm too
important to her. Right now, I'm a soccer player and it's something that we
both want. One day, I told her that she will be the one to decide where we
are going to live once my career is over. But I'm sure that also this
decision will be made together."
"I earn well at Juve, I don't need Barcelona to live well. We will talk
about this later, since, I repeat, I'm staying at Juve."
Meanwhile, Luciano Moggi denied a possible swap Zidane-Rivaldo with
Barcelona and another involving Roberto Carlos of Real Madrid.
Antonio Conte has extended his contract through 2003 (La Gazzetta dello
Sport reports "only" through 2002) and will earn Lit. 1.5 billion per
season (775,000 ; $906,000), up from Lit. 1 billion.
Alessio Tacchinardi and Mark Iuliano have extended their contracts through
2004.
