There is an interesting article that explains
what the main problem with Alessandro Del Piero's contract is.
Starting with Carlo Ancelotti, Juan Eduardo Esnaider, and Thierry Henry,
Juve wants his employees to give, in addition to the performances on the
field, also the rights to their image. This means that the players and the
coach can only stipulate deals with Juve sponsors.
Currently, Del Piero earns Lit. 3.5 billion (1.8 million ; $2.1 million)
from Juve and Lit. 8.5 billion (4.4 million ; $5.1 million) from his
personal sponsors: Adidas, Cepu, Pepsi Cola, Persol (Luxottica), and Walt
Disney. This is why Del Piero's agents want to start the contract
discussion at a base price of Lit. 12 billion (6.2 million ; $7.3 million)
with a goal of reaching around Lit. 20 billion (10 million ; $12 million)
per season.
Juve's current contract situation:
1999 Rampulla, Tele+ (D+).
2000 Amoruso, Del Piero, Kappa.
2001 Ferrara, Deschamps, Di Livio, Fonseca, Esnaider, Ancelotti.
2002 De Sanctis, Montero, Mirkovic, Birindelli, Tudor, Davids, Conte,
Blanchard, Perrotta.
2003 Peruzzi, Pessotto, Zidane, Inzaghi.
2004 Iuliano, Henry, Tacchinardi.
Morgan De Sanctis won't participate to Croatia-Italy [Under 21] due to a
dislocated shoulder. De Sanctis was expected to be benched by Marco
Tardelli in favor of Milan's Christian Abbiati.
