Carlo Ancelotti, right after the Manchester United game, said that it was
too bad that Juve only tied, since this was probably the best Juve all
year. Jokingly, he said that he will ask UEFA to abbreviate soccer matches,
since Juve seems to be scored against in/near injury time. His final praise
is to Antonio Conte, "a true leader".
Meanwhile, Alex Ferguson criticizes the referee, but also praises
Ancelotti, who demonstrated that he doesn't lack experience.
Conte, who scored his third Champions League goal, dedicated the goal to
Ancelotti. He said that he closed his eyes and shot the ball. With this
goal, he says, he proves yet again that he wasn't the problem in Juve's
disastrous streak this year and that, if Juve is going to win the cup, it
won't be thanks to Marcello Lippi, but to Ancelotti.
Angelo Peruzzi said that the team was wonderful and that he would have
signed for the 1-1 tie before the game, so nobody should feel too bad about
it. Filippo Inzaghi agrees with the goalkeeper, saying that this was the
best Juve of all year.
Gianluca Pessotto said that his performance in his first game after injury
was good, but that he should have scored when he had the opportunity in the
first half.
Atletico Madrid has offered Alessandro Del Piero a 5-year contract worth
Lit. 14 billion ( 7.2 million; $ 8.5 million) per season. Juventus
wouldn't get anything, since Atletico wants to get Del Piero in June 2000,
when his contract with Juve expires. Juventus had offered Lit. 7 billion (
3.6 million; $ 4.2 million) for 5 years. Although a move to Spain seems
unlikely, Del Piero will use this offer to ask more money, probably Lit. 9
billion ( 4.6 million; $ 5.4 million) per season. Lazio is also ready to
make an offer for Del Piero, probably around Lit. 10 billion ( 5.2
million; $ 6 million) per season.
Meanwhile, in case Del Piero leaves, Juve might be willing to get Ariel
Ortega in exchange for Fabio Pecchia and 25 billion lire ( 13 million; $
15 million).
Meanwhile, before the game against Manchester United, Luciano Moggi met
with Nicola Amoruso's agent, who has received offers from Fiorentina (he
would replace Edmundo) and Bologna (in exchange for Kennet Andersson).
