La Stampa 23/02/99
Today's article is mainly on next year's Juve.
In goal, Angelo Peruzzi will be back for one more season. Since Ivano
Bordon will join Marcello Lippi at Inter, either Negrisolo or De Vecchi
will be the new goalie coach.
Carlo Ancelotti, who travelled a lot in Europe and South America in the
past few months, wants to buy fullbacks that can help the team with
crosses. These are: Michel Salgado [Celta Vigo], Felipe [Vasco da Gama],
and Placente [River Plate]. The problem with Salgado is that Real Madrid is
also interested in him. For Felipe, Vasco da Gama is asking for too much
money and people at Juve think that the player isn't very good at defending.
Ancelotti wants one of his Parma pupils, Lilian Thuram, for next year, but
it's unlikely that Parma will give in, since Juve's offers is Mark Iuliano
+ money. If Juve can't get Thuram, other interesting players are Cyril
Domoraud [Olympique Marseille] and Martin Djetou [Monaco].
One player sure to come next season is Pier Giorgio Regonesi [Atalanta] who
already signed with Juve last season, but stayed one more year with his old
team.
Zoran Mirkovic will be confirmed for next season, while Gianluca Pessotto
and Alessandro Birindelli will probably be transfer listed. Pessotto has
many offers from foreign teams. Ciro Ferrara's future will be determined by
his physical conditions.
A new midfielder will be Gianluca Zambrotta [Bari], who has already signed
with Juve. Edgar Davids will remain at Juve, while there is also interest
for Jonathan Bachini and Giuliano Giannichedda [both at Udinese], although
for the latter Milan looks to be in pole position.
Ancelotti wants to test Alessio Tacchinardi in the future and see if the
player would be useful, otherwise Juve will go after Roberto Di Matteo
[Chelsea].
Simone Perrotta will also be back for next year, while one between Antonio
Conte and Angelo Di Livio will be sold. It looks more likely Conte, since
he has offers from English clubs.
Ancelotti has put his veto on Zinedine Zidane's departure, thus Manchester
United's offer of Lit 60 billion ( 31 million; $ 36 million) will be
rejected.
For the offensive side, both Filippo Inzaghi and Alessandro Del Piero will
be kept, although Ancelotti would love to have Hernan Crespo [Parma], but,
unless Parma has a real bad year, this won't happen.
Thierry Henry, the most expensive player in Juventus history, will remain,
while one between Daniel Fonseca and Nicola Amoruso will be sold (the
Uruguayan looks more likely to go). Juan Eduardo Esnaider will either be a
substitute or will be sold. A new arrival would be 19-year old Corrado
Colombo [Atalanta].
