Filippo Inzaghi expects to play a maximum of 10 minutes against Vicenza,
since he wants to be fully fit for the matches versus Inter and Olympiakos.
He also said that he will play for Juventus next season, although he has
received many offers from other clubs. He concluded by saying that his only
worry during these past few weeks was to get healthy and not that Carlo
Ancelotti was the new coach: he said once again that he and Ancelotti never
quarreled.
Yesterday, Marcello Lippi met the players and Ancelotti for his last visit
in Turin. His brief words were that he still expects something from them
and that the team will bring him rewards.
Ancelotti said that he won't use his lucky baseball cap anymore, since he
won his first game with Juve without it. Ancelotti, during his 2-year
tenure with Parma, always wore a baseball cap given to him by the "Old
Boys", a supporter group of Parma. Ancelotti also said that the fans that
made the "pig" banner were not those who talked to him, since they made a
sort of peace treaty. A spokesperson from the Irriducibili and the Fighters
confirmed this, saying that they were looking for the responsibles.
Ancelotti's final thoughts were to Arrigo Sacchi and the fact that he's
considered his heir. Ancelotti said that he still has to win something to
become the next Sacchi, especially in Europe.
TRADE NEWS : With Inzaghi being confirmed for next season, with Alessandro
Del Piero soon signing a new contract, and with the arrival of Thierry
Henry, the other Juventus forwards are on the transfer list.
Juan Eduardo Esnaider could be sold to Real Madrid for 15 billion lire (
7.7 million; $ 9 million), with Real Madrid retiring from the sweepstakes
for Michel Salgado of Celta Vigo.
Daniel Fonseca has received offers from Betis Seville and repeatedly said
that, if Juventus doesn't want him, he will leave.
Luciano Moggi will soon meet Nicola Amoruso's agent, Caliendo, to discuss
the player's future. Amoruso was sought by Arsenal, but his repeated
injuries make him less appealing.
Although Gianluca Zambrotta could be used as a forward, Juventus is looking
for someone willing to come off the bench. The names of Marcio Amoroso
[Udinese] and Vincenzo Montella [Sampdoria] were made, but they won't
accept the bench, moreover, their current teams want a lot of money. The
only name remaining, for now, is Inzaghi's little brother, Simone,
currently with Piacenza.
Vasco da Gama is asking for $ 18 million (Lit 30 billion; 15 million) for
21-year old left fullback Felipe. Vasco da Gama is not in dire need to sell
the player, since it wants to win the Copa Libertadores, but Juventus is
still on the player's trail. Another team interested is Fiorentina, a team
that will have to receive 23 billion lire ( 12 million; $ 14 million) from
Vasco da Gama for Edmundo.
Juventus is, with Inter, Roma, and Fiorentina, interested in 20-year old
defender Walter Adrian Samuel of Boca Juniors.
INFIRMARY REPORT : Both Inzaghi and Ciro Ferrara expect to have some playing
time against Vicenza. In the worst scenario, both will be available for the
following week against Inter. Alessio Tacchinardi remained in bed yesterday
due to the flu. Although he's not serious and is expected to play Sunday,
the team doctors preferred to keep him away from his teammates for a couple
of days. Gianluca Pessotto, OTOH, will not be available against Vicenza due
to his muscular lesion. Del Piero will continue his training in the weight
room and in the swimming pool. Next month he will resume running and will
have a visit with Dr. Richard Steadman in early April somewhere in Europe.
