Ciro Ferrara will have surgery this morning at 7:00 AM at the Pinna Pintor
Clinic in Turin. Dr. Paolo Rossi (no relation to the 1982 World Cup hero)
will operate him. Dr. Rossi will remove an intermedullar nail that was
inserted in Ferrara's previous surgery. This was supposed to be done at the
end of this season, but Ferrara said that it has started bothering him.
Ferrara will be under full anaesthesia and it will take him at least a
month to be match-fit. The hopeful return date is set for March 3rd against
Olympiakos.
Alessandro Birindelli's sprained ankle will make him doubtful for Sunday's
match against Cagliari.
Angelo Peruzzi, Michelangelo Rampulla, Zinedine Zidane, and Daniel Fonseca
are expected to be ready for Sunday.
Filippo Inzaghi should return for the match against Piacenza February 14th.
Enzo Francescoli wants Juventus as his opponent for his farewell game. The
match would be against River Plate in Buenos Aires this February 17th, but
Juve denies that it will go to South America.
Carlo Ancelotti has asked Juve to make a serious bid for 25-year old
defender Fabio Cannavaro [Parma]. Parma has refused offers from Inter and
Atletico Madrid. Other names mentioned for Juve's defensive corps next year
are Felipe [Vasco da Gama] and Michel Salgado [Celta Vigo], although there
is also an interest in Pistone [Newcastle].
A player that will surely be in Juve's roster next season is Pier Giorgio
Regonesi [Atalanta], who will join the Juventus Primavera team for the
upcoming 51st Viareggio Tournament. The Primavera will be also with
Equerdinha [Lecce] and Cesar Pellegrin [Ternana].
Empoli is interested in Chievo striker Cerbone, but the proposed swap with
Marcelo Zalayeta isn't certain, since the Juve prospect has also offers
from Ternana, Cremonese, and Cosenza.
Rumors are that Fabio Capello will coach Real Madrid next season or even
sooner. This means that Real will make a serious offer for Inzaghi, who is
one of Capello's favorite player.
Perugia offers goalkeeper Roccati to Salernitan in exchange for Raffaele
Ametrano.
Juve prospects Maurizio Dan [Borgosesia], Andrea Dotti [Borgosesia], Luca
Dosi [Fiorenzuola], and Edoardo Braiati [Spal] were included in the Serie
C2 All-Star game.
World Cup hero Paolo Rossi will run for the European Elections this June:
he will run under Alleanza Nazionale [right-wing] in the Northeastern
constituency.
