TURIN, Italy (December 4, 1999 12:56 p.m. EST http://www.sportserver.com) - Juventus took over the
Serie A lead Saturday after Filippo Inzaghi struck twice for a 2-0
home win over Bologna.
The win took Juventus three points ahead of rival Lazio,
which played at Perugia later on Saturday and Roma, who host
Lecce Sunday.
Carlo Ancelotti's side dominated throughout the game but
was unable to find a way past an inspired Gianluca Pagliuca in
the Bologna goal until the 55th minute.
Alessio Tacchinardi drifted a long ball into the Bologna
penalty area and Alessandro Del Piero brought the ball down
beautifully to set up a simple tap in for Inzaghi.
The two combined again for the second goal on 70 minutes
when Del Piero's shot was blocked by Bologna defender Massimo Tarintino and Inzaghi pounced on the loose ball to seal the three points.
Juve could have wrapped the match up in the first half had
Pagliuca not made a series of excellent saves to keep out
goalbound shots from Edgar Davids, Zinedine Zidane and two
efforts from Del Piero.
