TURIN, Italy (November 10, 1999 7:48 p.m. EST http://www.sportserver.com) - Turin officials have called for fresh talks with Juventus in a bid to keep the legendary club from leaving town.

A council meeting to discuss Juventus' proposals to demolish the council-owned Delle Alpi stadium and build their own $200 million sports complex has ended in deadlock.

The meeting followed reports last week that Juventus had found a site of its own at nearby Borgaro and was ready to begin building if the authorities blocked its plans for the Delle Alpi.

City mayor Valentino Castellani, who faces calls for his resignation over the affair, met Juventus managing director Antonio Giraudo Tuesday and both parties have agreed to a fresh round of talks - this time involving the provincial and regional authorities in a bid to find a solution.

The unloved stadium has been an expensive flop and dubbed "The Monument to Waste" by the Italian press.

Along with the building cost, which was triple the original estimate, its annual running costs of $1.75 million and unused athletics track have made it unpopular with club officials and soccer fans alike.
