ROME (October 31, 1999 11:57 a.m. EST http://www.sportserver.com) - Alessandro Del Piero converted a
late penalty to give Juventus a 1-0 win over Piacenza on Sunday to cut Lazio's lead at the top of Serie A to a point.
The Turin side have 17 points from eight matches, a point
behind Lazio, who needed a 90th minute equalizer to save its
unbeaten record at Inter Milan on Saturday.
But AC Milan and AS Roma both missed the chance to gain
ground on the league leaders with disappointing draws.
The out-of-form champions AC Milan remained third, level
with Inter on 14 points, after drawing 0-0 at lowly Verona.
At the Olympic stadium, bottom-of-the-table Cagliari had
Belgian Luis Oliveira sent off but still held fifth-placed Roma
to a 2-2 draw thanks to Patrick Mboma's 85th minute penalty.
Perugia trail Roma on goal difference after a 1-0 win at
Lecce while Udinese are a point further back thanks to a 3-2
home win over Reggina.
