Juventus in Command Despite Sending Off
SOFIA, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Yugoslav Darko Kovacevic struck twice on Thursday as 10-man Juventus trounced Levski Sofia 3-1 in their UEFA Cup second leg, first round.
The Italian side had Jonathan Bachini sent off in the 16th minute for a second yellow card offence but Levski made no impression and unmarked Nigerian Sunday Oliseh broke the deadlock with a powerful shot from long range in the 24th minute.
Kovacevic took advantage of a misunderstanding between the Bulgarian defence and goalkeeper Dimitar Ivankov to double the tally early in the second half.
Serge Yoffou gave Levski hope with a goal two minutes later but Juventus refused them an equaliser and Kovacevic found the target again a minute from time. Levski defender Predrag Pazin was sent off after receiving a second yellow card in the 78th minute.
Portugeese referee Monteiro Coroado stopped the game to consult with a linesman after a plastic bottle filled with water was thrown towards Juan Esnaider of Juventus as he was preparing to take a corner.
