Juventus stunned the 80,000 of Rome's Olympic Stadium as it defeated AS Roma 1-0 on Sunday night. Juventus took the lead after seven minutes were played in the second half on a majestic free kick curler by Zinedine Zidane, which Antonioli had no chance making the save on.

AS Roma suffered from the absence of its jewel Francesco Totti as it was unable to put its players in front of the Juve goal throughout the 90 minutes. The only main chances Fabio Capello's team had were off of two Candela free kicks in the first half, which were rebounded by the post in the 28th minute and by the Dutch goal keeper Edwin Van Der Sar in the 33rd minute.

Alex Del Piero, who unexpectedly started the game, was positive throughout the match even though he missed two easy one on one scoring chances in the 60th and 70th minutes. In the 90th minute of the match Zidane was shown the red card after he protested a yellow card shown to him by the referee Treossi for apparently faking a foul. With this victory Juventus joins Inter in second position with 12 points while AS Roma trail by one point with 11 points; Lazio leads the Serie A table with 14.
