RENNES, France, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Juventus cruised into the
UEFA Cup's first round by drawing 2-2 at Rennes in their
Intertoto Cup final second leg on Tuesday.
The Italian side progressed 4-2 on aggregate after their 2-0
home first leg victory.
Rennes raised French hopes in the 20th minute when former
Sochaux striker Elhadhi Diouf volleyed home a fine pass by
Cedric Bardon.
But the former European champions quickly put paid to any
dreams of a surprise when veteran Antonio Conte equalised nine
minutes later.
Gianluca Zambrotta added a second for the Italians in the
72nd. Alessandro Del Piero, who returned to action earlier this
month, made both decisive passes.
Rennes' Burundi striker Shabani Nonda equalised in the dying
moments.
