ROME, Aug 11 (Reuters) - Juventus midfielder Edgar Davids
says he is confident the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) will
clear his use of eyedrops in time for Italy's friendly against
the Netherlands on August 18.
Davids has been taking eyedrops containing a banned diuretic
to cure a temporary glaucoma. He missed Juventus's Intertoto Cup tie with Rennes on Tuesday while he awaited a verdict from CONI.
A spokesman for CONI, which oversees doping controls in
Italian sport, said it could give its response "by the end of
the week" after consulting 27 laboratories accredited to the
IOC.
"I've heard the IOC reply could come within 48 hours," he
told Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper. "If that's true, I would be ready for the Dutch squad...I'm optimistic. I think within 24 hours the problem will be solved."
