ROME, Aug 10 (Reuters) - Juventus midfielder Edgar Davids will know whether he can play using eyedrops containing a banned diuretic in the next few days, the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) said on Tuesday.
CONI, in charge of doping controls in Italian sport, said it had received a request for clarification from the Italian Football Federation after Juventus asked permission for Davids to use the drug.
The body's anti-doping unit has asked 27 other laboratories accredited to the International Olympic Committee for opinions on the substance contained in eyedrops prescribed to the Dutch international to cure a temporary glaucoma.
"We expect the responses to come back within a few days," CONI said.
Davids is not now expected to appear for Juventus in the Intertoto Cup finals first leg against Rennes on Tuesday night.
