Juventus, West Ham and Hamburg Move Closer to UEFA Cup
LONDON, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Juventus moved easily into the final round of the Intertoto Cup on Wednesday with Alessandro Del Piero scoring on his comeback after a nine-month injury layoff in a 5-1 demolition of Rostselmash Rostov of Russia.
Filippo Inzaghi scored a hat-trick and Alessio Tacchinardi added the other as the former European champions swept into the final stages 9-1 on aggregate. They now meet Rennes after the French side drew 2-2 with Austria Vienna to go through 4-2 on
aggregate.
West Ham United of England also progressed with a 1-0 win at SC Heerenveen in the Netherlands to go through 2-0 on aggregate. New signing from Derby County, Paulo Wanchope scored the only goal after 25 minutes and the Hammers now play Metz who won 2-1 at Polonia Warsaw for a 6-2 aggregate
win.
The third "final" will be between 1983 European champions Hamburg SV and Montpellier, after the French side stopped the chance of an all-German clash with a victory over MSV Duisburg. Montpellier won 3-0 on Wednesday for a 4-1 aggregate success. Hamburg trounced Trabzonspor of Turkey 4-1 for a 6-3 aggregate.
The first legs of the finals will be on August 10 with the return legs on August 24. The three winners will go through to the first round of the UEFA Cup.
