MARSEILLE, France(June 27, 1999 2:26 p.m. EDT http://www.sportserver.com) - World player of the year Zinedine Zidane will stay at Juventus next season, he said Sunday.
The playmaker, French but of Algerian origin, made his plans clear at a press conference near his childhood home just north of Marseille.
"I am staying at Juventus for the moment despite all the offers," said Zidane, who is reportedly still being pursued by Real Madrid and whose wife is Spanish.
Zidane added playing in Spain was a long-term goal and admitted he had spoken too quickly earlier this year when Italian press interpreted his words as meaning his leaving was imminent.
