STRASBOURG, France (May 12, 1999 11:54 a.m. EDT http://www.sportserver.com) - Zinedine Zidane, the France and Juventus midfielder, had surgery on a damaged right knee cartilage on Wednesday and should be able to resume ball
practice within six weeks, his surgeon said.
"(The operation) shouldn't in any way affect the player's career," specialist Jean-Henri Jaeger said.
"Within six weeks he'll resume kicking the ball...and he'll score lots more goals."
Zidane, FIFA's world player of the year, will miss France's Euro 2000 group four qualifiers against Russia and Andorra next month as well as the last two Juventus league games of the season.
He is expected to leave hospital in Strasbourg and return to Turin within four days. He will resume training with his club in August.
