TURIN, Italy (May 7, 1999 1:44 p.m. EDT http://www.sportserver.com) - Juventus midfielder Zinedine Zidane has failed to recover from a knee injury and his season is already over, ANSA news agency reported on Friday.

The World Cup winner damaged the meniscus, a piece of cartilage which acts as a shock absorber inside the knee, during a Champions League quarterfinal tie against Olympiakos in Athens in March.

The injury hasn't cleared up and the Frenchman is still in pain, forcing him to miss the "Grande Torino" commemorative match in Turin last Tuesday.

The Golden Ball winner, who will visit a clinic in Strasbourg for a further examination, is now expected to undergo arthroscopic surgery to removed the damaged parts.

He will miss the last three matches of Juventus' season as it fights to qualify for a Champions League place.
