Real Madrid and Juventus in Barcelona Transfer Talks
MADRID, April 29 (Reuters) - Real Madrid and Juventus have
begun negotiations that could see Clarence Seedorf and Zinedine
Zidane swap clubs.
Real president Lorenzo Sanz and Juve vice-president Roberto
Bettega met in Barcelona ahead of the Catalan club's centenary
match against Brazil, Spanish newspapers reported on Thursday.
Top of the Juventus wish list is Seedorf, the 23-year-old
Dutch international who has endured a difficult season at the
Bernabeu.
Real rate Seedorf at 3,000 million pesetas ($19.16 million)
but could be prepared to accept Uruguayan defender Paolo Montero
in a player-plus-cash deal.
The Spanish club would also like to do a deal on world
footballer of the year Zidane, although that would appear to be
far more complicated.
The French World Cup winner last week pledged his immediate
future to Juventus, contradicting reports that he would join a
Spanish club next season.
But he reiterated that he does not want to finish his
playing career in Italy and Real are hoping Juventus will listen
to offers sooner rather than later.
Real are prepared to offer Brazilian left back Roberto
Carlos or Yugoslav striker Predrag Mijatovic plus around 2,000
million pesetas ($12.77 million).
