MANCHESTER, England (April 7, 1999 2:54 p.m. EDT http://www.sportserver.com) - About 80 Manchester United and Juventus fans were involved in violent clashes in the city on Wednesday, a few hours before their teams' European Cup semifinal first leg.
Greater Manchester police said they had separated the fans, who had fought outside the city's main railway station, and taken the Italians by bus to United's Old Trafford ground a few kilometers away.
Police said there had also been some isolated fights in the city during the day but that the atmosphere was generally calm.
