Atletico to Reportedly Offer Del Piero $8 Million a Year

MADRID (April 6, 1999 10:07 p.m. EDT http://www.sportserver.com) - Atletico Madrid is set to offer Juventus and Italy golden boy Alessandro Del Piero a salary of $8 million a year, sports newspaper As reported Tuesday.
Del Piero, 24, has not renewed his contract with the Bianconeri but Spanish first-division club Atletico would have to still pay Juve 17 million dollars for the forward on top of the personal terms.
Preliminary talks took place between Atletico director general Miguel Angel Gil and the player's agent Claudio Pasqualin last month during Atletico's UEFA Cup quarterfinal with Roma.
Del Piero has missed most of the season with an injury in what has so far been a disappointing campaign for the club known as the vecchia signora or the old lady of Italian football.
