Henry Signs With Juventus
January 18, 1999 10:30 AM

TURIN, Italy (Reuters) -- Italian champions Juventus said Monday they had signed French striker Thierry Henry of Monaco.

A spokeswoman said Henry, who scored three goals in six games at last summer's World Cup, had signed a contract until 2003. She declined to give financial details.

Henry had said in November he wanted to join his "dream club," Arsenal. The English tried to sign him before the World Cup finals but Monaco doubled the asking price after Henry's performance and no deal was made.

Henry joined Juventus, ninth in serie A, the day after Argentine striker Juan Esnaider made his debut. Esnaider signed moved to the Turin-based club from Espanyol after Juventus improved its offer.

Henry, who had his medical on Monday morning, will not be able to play in the European Cup because he represented Monaco in the UEFA Cup.

His contract with 1997 French champions Monaco had been due to run for another two years.
