ROME (Nov 11, 1998 - 20:27 EST) - Ciro Ferrara scored a 109th minute equalizer as league champions Juventus twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at Venezia and move into the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup on Wednesday.

Ferrara, playing only his third match after returning from a eight month lay-off with a broken leg, crashed home a long range shot minutes after Venezia had taken a 2-1 lead from the penalty spot through ex-Juve defender Gianluca Luppi.

The match had ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, forcing the two sides into extra time.

Venezia, who had managed a 1-1 draw in Turin in the first leg, had taken a 1-0 lead through new Brazilian signing Tuta just two minutes from the end of the 90.

But within seconds Juventus won a penalty from which Uruguayan striker Daniel Fonseca levelled the scores.

Luppi's spot kick, given for a foul on inspired Venezia forward Fabian Valtolino, appeared to have swung the tie the home side's way again before Ferrara scored his equalizer.

Juventus plays Bologna in the last eight.

Inter Milan also struggled against supposedly inferior opposition before booking their place in the quarters with a 1-1 draw against Serie C side Castel di Sangro.

Gigi Simoni's struggling giants fell behind to a goal from former AS Roma player Antonio Bernardi after 76 minutes which levelled the aggregate scores at 1-1.

Three minutes later Inter's young Italian striker Nicola Ventola fell in the penalty area after what appeared to be a fair challenge but the referee awarded a penalty.

Frenchman Youri Djorkaeff drove home the spot kick to take Inter through to a quarter-final clash with holders Lazio, who qualified at the expense of AC Milan after the two sides drew 1-1 at the San Siro.

Chilean striker Marcelo Salas put the Rome side ahead, beating the offside trap just before halftime and cracking a shot past German goalkeeper Jens Lehmann.

Lazio had Portuguese midfielder Sergio Conceicao sent off and Milan equalized through Maurizio Ganz but the visitors still qualified courtesy of their 3-1 victory in the first leg.

Sampdoria squandered a 1-0 lead against Bologna and ended the match with eight men after the home side scored a last minute penalty to win 2-1 both on the night and on aggregate.

Samp, held 0-0 in the first leg, looked to be on their way to the quarter-finals when they took the lead through striker Francesco Palmieri after nine minutes.

But Palmieri's striking partner Vincenzo Iacopini was sent off early in the second half and Bologna then equalised through Giuseppe Signori shortly after the hour.

Sampdoria still looked set to qualify on the away goals rule until Bologna won a penalty on 90 minutes when striker Davide Fontolan tumbled in the box.

Samp's midfielder Marco Franceschetti and defender David Balleri were sent off for protesting the decision before Russian forward Igor Kolyvanov converted the spot kick to give Bologna their dramatic victory.

Parma ground out a dismal 0-0 draw at home to beat Bari 2-1 on aggregate and book their place in the last eight while Udinese beat Vicenza 1-0 on the night and on aggregate in the northeast derby match.

AS Roma were due to host Atalanta Bergamo in the final third round match on Thursday.
