Juventus striker carted off field in Udinese match
UDINE, Italy (AP) -- Italy international striker Alessandro Del Piero hyperextended his left knee late in his Serie A club Juventus of Turin's 2-2 draw Sunday at Udinese.
Club doctor Riccardo Agricola said it was not immediately clear how long the Juventus captain will be sidelined. "The good news is that the knee is not swollen," Agricola said. "But the back of the knee hurts a lot."
Del Piero was taken off the field at Friuli Stadium on a stretcher after clashing with Udinese defender Valerio Bertotto in the closing minutes.
It is the latest setback for Del Piero, who turns 24 Monday. The player struggled through a poor World Cup this summer with a leg injury and has tallied only twice this season for Juventus, which tumbled out of first place in the league standings with Sunday's draw.
