TURIN, Italy (Nov 7, 1998 - 12:03 EST) - Juventus is discussing with ex-AC Milan coach Fabio Capello a similar position with the Italian champion next season, the Italian press reported on Saturday.

Current Juventus coach Marcello Lippi has been hugely successful since 1994 but his contract expires in June and the 50-year-old has already been linked with big-spending Lazio.

Capello was in Bilbao three weeks ago as a radio commentator for Juventus' European Champions League game against Athletic and met club officials at the team hotel, the Turin-based daily Tuttosport said.

The report came as Juventus president Vittorio Caisotti di Chiusano admitted: "I would understand if he decided to leave.

"People sometimes feel the need to change their habits and surroundings and at times there are attractive solutions, both in terms of their future prospects and the scale of the offer."

Juventus officials are attracted by Capello's track record despite his being replaced at AC Milan by Alberto Zaccheroni last summer after an unsuccessful return from Spain in the summer of 1997.

Capello coached AC Milan to four Italian league titles in five seasons, along with the 1994 European Cup, before taking Real Madrid to the Spanish league title in 1996-97.

Though sacked last summer, he is still being paid by AC Milan under a two-year contract which, like Lippi's, expires next June.

Juventus have won the Italian league in three of the last four seasons under Lippi, along with the 1996 European Cup.
