PARMA, Italy (Sep 26, 1998 - 18:02 EDT) - France's World Cup midfielder Zinedine Zidane had to leave Juventus's top-of-the-table clash with Parma on Saturday with a knee injury.
Zidane, whose two goals in the final helped France to its World Cup victory over Brazil in July, bruised his knee during Juventus' opening game of the season at Perugia two weeks ago.
He had been expected to play but failed a late test.
"At Parma, we need a physically strong team. Either Zidane is 100 percent fit or he's not playing," said Juventus coach Marcello Lippi before the test.
Zidane's forfeit is the latest in a series of injuries to deprive Lippi of several first-choice players including international defenders Ciro Ferrara and Mark Iuliano and striker Nicola Amoruso.
"These problems are becoming infuriating," said Lippi.
Italy international Angelo Di Livio, a utility midfielder, will take Zidane's place in the Juventus lineup.
