NEWCASTLE, England (Aug 10, 1998 - 17:18 EDT) - Newcastle came out a 2-1 winner over Juventus at St. James's Park here on Monday night.

German World Cup star Dietmar Hamann struck a memorable goal in the 26th minute to set Newcastle on its way, and Stuart Pearce made it 2-0 by rifling home a 40th minute free-kick.

The Italians came out looking ultra determined in the second half and were rewarded for their endeavour.

Even a last-minute curler from Juventus winger Jocelyn Blanchard could not dim the feeling of underlying confidence in the United camp.

In another friendly, Nottingham Forest completed preparations for its English Premier League return with a 3-2 defeat against top Dutch side Feyenoord.
