Juventus Set To Launch Bid For Nesta - Reports
ROME (Reuters) - Juventus are set to launch a bid for Lazio's Italy defender Alessandro Nesta, Italian sports newspapers have reported.
A Lazio spokesman told Reuters the two Serie A clubs met on Tuesday to discuss a possible move without making any final decision.
"A meeting took place, but no decisions have been made and we have no further comment to make," the spokesman said.
Italy international Nesta has been the subject of mounting speculation and has been linked with a number of Italian and foreign clubs after what has been a poor season from the Rome side
According to the Corriere Dello Sport, a meeting took place between Lazio president Sergio Cragnotti and his son Massimo and Juventus director Luciano Moggi and administrator Antonio Giraudo on Tuesday.
The report added that Juventus were prepared to offer 30 million euros for Nesta, along with Italy internationals Mark Iuliano and Gianluca Zambrotta.
The Gazzetta Dello Sport reported that Nesta's preferred move was to Inter Milan, adding the player was not keen on a switch to Spain where Real Madrid are also said to be interested.
STAYING ON
Lazio coach Alberto Zaccheroni said on Monday he was certain the player would stay with Lazio if they reached next season's Champions League.
But he added it would be almost impossible to keep Nesta if the club failed to reach that target.
"He's the best defender in the world," Zaccheroni told Italian radio station Anch'Io.
"Cragnotti had told me it's his intention to keep him. If we reach fourth place and qualify for the Champions League, I assure you he will stay at Lazio. If we do not do that, it will be difficult."
Lazio are currently five points adrift of fourth-placed Bologna in Serie A and face city-rivals Roma on Sunday.
Juventus refused to comment on Nesta speculation on Wednesday.
