Davids Set To Face Questioning In Holland

Friday 22nd February 2002

The lawyer defending Edgar Davids from accusations that the Juventus midfielder assaulted his former girlfriend has admitted that the Dutch international may face questioning in Holland.

"He could be called by Dutch police as early as next week," said Garard Spong, who spent two days in Amsterdam with his client who could, if found guilty, face a maximum eight-year prison sentence.

"He has not been questioned as yet, but Davids once again denies these accusations," added Spong, who has in the past defended Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert over rape allegations.

Model Sarah Hageens alleges that Davids beat her throughout their relationship which began in 1998 and that the latest episode occurred last week.

Hageens, who has a two-year-old son by the former Ajax star, told police that she feared for her life during a recent quarrel who is alleged to have squeezed her neck then cut her arm by pushing her against a window.

The 23-year-old also claimed that the situation worsened during the ban Davids was forced to serve for testing positive for the steroid nandrolone last season.

Davids returned to training, with the rest of the Juventus squad on Friday, in preparation for Sunday's Turin Derby and is expected to start against city rivals Torino.
