Juve Star Pessotto Fears 'Wounded' Fiorentina
Thursday 14th February 2002
Juventus defender Gianluca Pessotto has warned that weekend opponents Fiorentina pose a major threat to his side's Serie A title hopes, despite continued off-field problems.
"I fear Fiorentina. We can't take them lightly," claimed the Italy star. "We can't consider them a relegation side and, if we do, we could undo the good work at Roma last week."
A goalless draw against the league leaders kept Juventus within a point of the top and victory at home on Saturday afternoon would see coach Marcello Lippi's side claim the Serie A leadership for the first time this season.
"We believe we can win the title but now we have to prove it," Pessotto added. "We are a solid side but, with the Champions' League returning, we have to stay focused.
"Inter are still a big danger as they are not involved in the Champions' League unlike us and Roma."
Juventus have won six of their last seven Serie A outings, but over the next month face a derby with Torino and a potential title-decider against Internazionale.
