Upbeat Nedved Looks Beyond Roma Test

Monday 4th February 2002

Juventus midfielder Pavel Nedved believes his side will go onto win the Serie A title if they beat leaders Roma at the Stadio Olimpico next Sunday.

Roma's failure to beat Fiorentina and Internazionale's draw with Torino at the weekend enabled Juve to make valuable ground in the title race and Nedved is confident his team can go all the way.

"We'll play at Stadio Olimpico just one point behind Roma and that's the most positive thing," he said. "I remember the first match between us, when they dominated us but now we'll avenge it.

"If we do it nobody can stop Juventus. But a draw could be a positive result. I'm confident because we'll have all the Lazio fans supporting us.

"Roma will try to provoke Juventus during this week but we have to forget what they say."

Before next Sunday's crunch tie Juve must defend a 2-1 aggregate lead in the Coppa Italia against AC Milan and Nedved is keen to keep the winning run going with a victory at the San Siro.

He added: "The Coppa Italia is still an important target. We'll never underestimate it. To play is always better than to train so that's why playing on Wednesday could be an advantage.

"We don't think that we're already in the final because Milan will play a strong match trying to upset the first leg result."
