Ferrara Keen To See Out His Career At Juventus
TURIN, February 1 (DS) - Now that the winter transfer window has closed in Italy, one cannot but recall Juventus chairman Luciano Moggi's statement that Ciro Ferrara and Antonio Conte will remain his side's best signings.
Meanwhile these words of his aren't repeated for effect. The Juventus management's recent offer to renew the 35-year-old defender's deal, due to expire in June comes as an irrefutable proof to the chairman's words.
Ferrara said he's keen to renew his contract for another year meanwhile when asked about his plans for the future, the Juventus veteran defender said he hadn't made up his mind yet. The defender is keen to stay at Juventus when his playing days are over. Meanwhile his position isn't clarified yet; he may turn into a coach, a sports director or just have a symbolic post.
"I'm on good terms with the management that are based on mutual trust and respect," claimed the defender.
Ferrara, who's been performing at Juventus since 1994, hinted the team have enjoyed their best ever season.
"I can tell you this: nowadays Juventus are confident of their abilities. Meanwhile the road to scudetto is a tough one. In the 90s there was one strong team, who were "doomed" to claim the title, whereas nowadays there are a number of teams equally strong and capable of emerging as champions in the title hunt. Of course, our recent victories have given us a considerable boost."
Ferrara, who is considered the Turin side veteran, believes such a title imposes an additional load of responsibility: "Conte and I always find the right words to cheer up our teammates at the toughest moments. We learn to understand them. Here, at Juventus, the players always have an impetus to play," claimed the defender.
