Romanian Mutu In Talks Over Juventus Move

MILAN (Reuters) - Verona's Romanian international striker Adrian Mutu is in talks with Serie A title challengers Juventus about a possible transfer, the player's agent has said.

Italian media reports have said that Mutu, who has impressed hugely this season grabbing seven goals for Verona, is seen by Juventus as the ideal cover for their strike pairing of Alessandro Del Piero and David Trezeguet.

"I can confirm that we are in talks with both clubs and we could have a result on Thursday afternoon," Mutu's agent Giovani Becali told Reuters

Thursday is the deadline day for transfers in Serie A.

Should the deal go ahead it would give Mutu a second chance with a top Italian club.

The 23-year-old joined Inter Milan from Dinamo Bucharest in January 2000 but left at the end of the season having failed to establish himself at the San Siro.

Since then Mutu has delivered some outstanding displays with Verona, emerging as one of the brightest talents in Serie A this season.

His preferred role of floating just behind a main striker would make him a perfect back-up for Del Piero and would also give Juventus coach Marcello Lippi an additional option as his team continue to keep on the heels of leaders AS Roma and second-placed Inter.

Juve have has a shortage of cover in attack as Chilean Marcelo Salas has been ruled out for the season with a cruciate knee ligament injury.
