France Forward Trezeguet Fears Roma More Than Inter
ROME (Reuters) - Juventus striker David Trezeguet believes Roma are a far bigger threat to his dreams of winning the Italian first division title than current league leaders Inter Milan.
Juventus, who lie third in the standings, face fourth-placed Chievo on Sunday and are currently four points behind Inter and three behind champions Roma.
"I fear Roma (in the league) because they are more of a team than (being) reliant on a single player, and they can decide a match in just a moment," the France striker was quoted as saying in Saturday's Gazzetta Dello Sport.
"Inter, on the other hand, depend much more on Vieri and (he) is a fundamental player because he can do so much on his own.
"Milan and Lazio have problems that mean they're out of the title race, I think."
Rejuvenated Juventus are unbeaten in eight games and are starting to look like the title challengers many predicted after a summer of big spending on players such as Pavel Nedved and Lilian Thuram.
Chievo, their opponents on Sunday, were unlikely to win the title, said Trezeguet.
"I don't believe they can finish in the first position - they have already reached their objective, (of) escaping the drop," he said.
"But they have shown themselves to be a good team with a strong coach."
Trezeguet, who previously played for Monaco, has scored 13 goals for Juventus this season and believes everything is coming together nicely.
"In Italy, I'm playing in the most difficult championship in the world and being here helps improve me. I still believe that, at 24, I have a lot I can improve on.
"I have a contract here until 2005 and, if the club wants to, I will extend it. This is an ideal place to work."
