Juve Still An Option For Vieira, Says Trezeguet

Friday 25th January 2002

Juventus striker David Trezeguet has claimed that Arsenal star Patrick Vieira phoned him last week to ask for advice on his future.

"He wanted me to give him information on Juventus," said the France international. "He asked me what it was like to play for them and he wanted to know about the team.

"I know he has done the same with Zidane at Real because they have made it clear that they want him.

"I am not going to make a prediction about what Patrick will do, but I can assure you that he has not decided anything yet. Everything is still possible," Trezeguet told the Gazzetta Dello Sport.

Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger insisted recently that he would not let Vieira leave before the end of his contract, even if he was offered a world-record 50 million.

But Vieira admitted last month that he would consider all options at the end of the season.

"I will study the offers, but I don't know what I will do next year," explained the 25-year-old. "I still have two years left on my Arsenal contract. I will make a decision before the World Cup in consultation with Arsene and the club. There will be no problem."

Vieira fuelled rumours that he has signed a pre-contract agreement with Real by travelling to Madrid during his day off last week, but Wenger is doubtful.

"Real said they were not linked with the stories. They said they are not true," he confirmed last weekend. "If they wanted to do something, they wouldn't do it the way things have been reported or at this moment of the season.

"The players had two days off and they can go where they want. Normally they don't go to Iceland in the winter but they might go to Madrid. What is wrong with that?"
