Tacchinardi Says Trezeguet Is No 1 Frontman

Monday 21st January 2002

Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi has claimed that David Trezeguet is a better striker than Internazionale forward Christian Vieri.

"Vieri is a great striker, but I'd prefer to have Trezeguet on my side," he said.

Tacchinardi, who has recently recovered from injury, spoke out on the day that former Italy forward Gigi Riva said that Vieri was the best marksman in the world.

"David Trezeguet has really surprised me," he said. "I knew he was a European and world champion but I hadn't thought he'd be so infallible. He has fitted in very quickly in a tough league."

Tacchinardi, who scored in the 3-0 win over Atalanta at the weekend, said: "It's true that I'm feeling better now, but what's important is that the whole team is in good shape.

"We've got back our personality and self confidence. Thankfully, we've had the energy and strength stay strong over the past few months."

Juventus lie behind leaders Internazionale and second-placed Roma.

"Hector Cuper's team are very dangerous," said Tacchinardi. "They've reached a consistent level. Also, Inter won't be in the Champions' League that restarts in February and will make it difficult for us and Roma.

"Roma are the champions of Italy and have a tremendous squad at their disposal. It's going to go right down to the wire and every point will count."
