Striker Esnaider Joins River Plate On Loan From Juventus
BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - Much-travelled Argentine striker Juan Esnaider has joined his Uruguayan Juventus team mate Daniel Fonseca on loan at River Plate.
Esnaider, who had been on loan to Porto of Portugal, agreed to the six-month deal after failing to beat France's David Trezeguet to the central striker's spot at Juventus.
"I'm arriving at a difficult moment in (Argentina)...the change doesn't favour me economically, but I didn't hesitate for an instant because I was drawn (home) sentimentally," he said.
Esnaider, 28, who has also played for Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, helped Real Zaragoza of Spain win the now defunct European Cup Winners Cup in 1995.
The 32-year-old Fonseca, a member of Uruguay's 1990 World Cup squad, agreed to a similar loan deal with River until June earlier in the week.
