D'Alessandro Brushes Aside Talk Of Juve
Monday 14th January 2002
Juventus target Andres D'Alessandro has reiterated his desire to stay at River Plate and win the Clausura before considering a switch to Italy.
"My dream is to win a championship with River," he said.
"I have only played one championship and I didn't like what happened, so I want to get my revenge in the next one."
River finished runners up to Racing Avellaneda in the Apertura which ended amid speculation that D'Alessandro would leave for Juventus at the beginning of January.
Juve sports director Luciano Moggi, however, deemed the 20-year-old, who sprung to fame at the 2001 World Youth Championships, unready for Serie A.
D'Alesandro, meanwhile, was surprised to hear reports that Juventus supporters had tried to raise funds to bring a player considered the next Maradona, to the Stadio dell' Alpi.
"There will never be a player like Maradona again, so I would tell the supporters of Juventus to keep their money," D'Alesandro said.
"I am very grateful for the idea they had and I couldn't believe it when I was told what they wanted to do, but I still want to spend some more time with River."
D'Alessandro trained with Premiership side West Ham United in January 2001, but the Londoners were only prepared to offer 3 million for a player Argentinians rate as the greatest of his generation.
