Lippi Frustrated With 'Cloth-Eared' Juventus

Wednesday 19th December 2001

Juventus manager Marcello Lippi was furious after his side squandered a lead against lowly Fiorentina on Wednesday. "I asked for controlled play but nobody listened," he complained.

The 1-1 stalemate keeps Juve six points adrift of leaders Internazionale in fourth place and Lippi bemoaned his players' inability to kill off opponents.

"We stopped playing after taking the lead," he said. "We didn't take advantage of the chances that Fiorentina allowed us and they punished us.

"After a good first half, we started to play long balls and I didn't appreciate that. Our midfield didn't control any balls."
