Trezeguet Backs Davids For Juve Future

Friday 14th December 2001

David Trezeguet has insisted Juventus team-mate Edgar Davids is still happy at the Stadio Delle Alpi.

"I don't think Davids will leave Turin," said the France striker. "The latest rumours really upset him."

The Dutch midfielder warned coach Marcello Lippi that he would quit if he was left out of the first team again following Juve's Champions' League defeat to Arsenal.

However, Lippi insisted that there was no problem following Davids' inclusion in the starting line-up for the game against AC Milan last weekend and Trezeguet believes the speculation is unfounded.

The draw against Milan, their sixth this season, left Juve seven points behind Internazionale at the top of Serie A and Trezeguet accepts he shoulders some of the blame for failing to keep pace with the leaders.

"We are fine in defence, but we need to improve in attack," explained the striker ahead of the game with Piacenza on Sunday.

"We have three matches before Christmas to try to reduce the gap at the top."

"Inter deserve their lead," Trezeguet concluded. "They are playing well even against small teams, but now they face a difficult run."
