Juventus 2 - Perugia 0
Saturday 1st December 2001
Pavel Nedved finally turned on the style for Juventus as they comfortably
beat Perugia at the Stadio Delle Alpi on Saturday.
Juve's cause was aided considerably when the visitors' Manuele Blasi was
sent off for two bookable offences in the first half.
Alex Del Piero had already tested Perugia goalkeeper Andrea Mazzantini when
Blasi was given his marching orders, but despite exerting enormous pressure,
Juventus could not find the breakthrough in the first half.
Perugia were making no attempt to move forward, seemingly content to battle
for a 0-0 draw. However, they were breached after 52 minutes when Czech
Republic international Nedved connected with an Igor Tudor cross.
Nedved and Edgar Davids were running the show from midfield and both came
close to extending the lead. France striker David Trezeguet finally put the
result beyond doubt with a firm header with 15 minutes left.
