Juve To Appeal Against Trezeguet Suspension
Wednesday 28th November 2001
Juventus are to appeal against the two game ban imposed on striker David Trezeguet for an off-the-ball head-butt on Simone Inzaghi during Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Lazio.
"This is an injustice," said Juve vice-president Roberto Bettega. "We will appeal with the utmost urgency."
The news of the ban, which will keep the France international out of the Serie A games against Perugia and Milan, came as a massive blow to Juventus coach Marcello Lippi, who is already missing Marcelo Salas through injury for the rest of the season.
Referee Pierluigi Collina failed to spot the France international's offence but a trial by television followed and judge Maurizio Laudi explained his verdict: "He committed a violent foul while the match was stopped that was not seen by the referee."
Lazio were worthy winners in the big Saturday night game after a goal by Fabio Liverani continued the Rome club's revival under coach Alberto Zaccheroni.
This is the third time that Juventus' players have been banned after television replays. Last season, Paolo Montero was banned for three matches after he punched Luigi Di Biagio in the game against Internazionale.
Earlier this, season Edgar Davids was ruled out for two matches after he was considered the main protagonist in a melee between Lecce and Juve players.
