Juventus Ordered To Pay Trelleborg Compensation

Friday 9th November 2001

Fifa have ordered Juventus to pay Trelleborg compensation after the Italians breached the contract of goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson by selling him on without giving the Allsvenskan side first option.

After Isaksson joined the Turin club in 1998, Trelleborg inserted a clause in the contract which said that Trelleborg had the right to make an offer for the goalkeeper if he was sold on for less than 730,000.

However, Isaksson joined Djurgarden at the start of the Swedish season earlier this year for 270,000, without Trelleborg being given the chance to bid for their former player.

And on Thursday, Fifa ruled that Juventus had to pay Trelleborg compensation.

Trelleborg chairman Bo Forsen did not reveal how much the Italian side would have to pay, but he told Expressen: "We surely would have paid what Djurgarden did for Andreas."

To make matter worse for Trelleborg, they were relegated while Andreas Isaksson took newcomers Djurgarden to second in Allsvenskan.

He is a regular in the Swedish Under-21team, and is expected to be Sweden's third choice keeper in the World Cup next summer.
